Accidents happen, and sometimes that means getting a tooth knocked out. This can be a painful experience, but it shouldn't make you panic. Instead, you should carefully plan out what to do.

First, you want to try and control the bleeding. Next, you want to protect your tooth by holding it carefully by the chewing part of the tooth. Finally, you want to get in touch with your dentist and find out how quickly you can be seen.

Dental Emergencies Need to Be Dealt With Immediately

The first thing that you need to do is try and control the bleeding. This should be done with a clean rag, ideally, but even some paper towels will work is that's all you have on hand.

Put pressure on the area that's bleeding, and look for the tooth. Next, pick the tooth up by its chewing surface, and very gently rinse it under a bit of clean water.

To store the tooth while you get to your dentist's office, you want to place it in a container full of saliva, or place it in a container of milk. Lastly, you want to get on the phone with your dentist. Ask them how soon you can be seen, and quickly give them a rundown of what happened.

Most dental offices try and keep an emergency appointment open each day, so they hopefully can see you right away. If not, they may recommend another office or going to the ER instead.

Don't wait to call your dentist after having a tooth knocked out. Many teeth that have been knocked out have successfully been put back in, but only when they were tended to within a few minutes. Contact our office quickly, and there's a good chance your tooth will be fine.
