Why Your Teeth Will Thank You for Eating Nuts

A collection of nuts beside each other.
Nuts are a great snack to have. They are healthy, give your body nutrients that are hard to get elsewhere, do not add a bunch of sugar or bad fat into your diet, and they help to keep your teeth healthy. If you have been trying to figure out a snack food to have around and don't have any type of a nut allergy, then consider adding some nuts to your daily diet. Your whole body will be happier and healthier.

How Nuts Keep Your Teeth Healthy

Nuts are very crunchy, as most people know. The more you chew on nuts, the more they break down. Those fine crumbles of the nut that you are left with are similar to a toothpaste when in your mouth. It slides between your cheeks and your teeth as you chew, and rubs up against your teeth and gums. The more you chew, the more abrasive action your teeth get, and the more plaque and biofilm the nuts are able to scrape off.

Plus, since nuts require so much effort to chew, it also increases how much you salivate. This allows your teeth to basically go through a car wash each time you eat nuts. The brushes come as you chew up the nuts, and the extra saliva rinses your teeth cleaner than before you began snacking.

Nuts are a wonderful thing to add into your routine. They can help boost your body, give your body things it likely lacks, and help to keep your pearly whites healthy and strong. Instead of reaching for junk food, turn to the pantry that Mother Nature has provided. Give some nuts a try and see how much your mouth responds. Then, go in and see if your dentist notices a difference, too!
